IMPORTANT:
- A person may not apply for more than one institutional medal (Marles, Woodward, or Littlejohn) in the same year.

For joint applications based on co-authored research and/or team-based research impact, all University of Melbourne co‑authors must submit a single, shared application. Each applicant must clearly outline their individual contribution to the research and/or impact, and must upload their own academic CV.
Before You Apply
- Carefully review the scheme webpage and read the guidelines for the specific medal you intend to apply for, and confirm eligibility. Direct any questions to res-devschemes@unimelb.edu.au.
- Applicants for Woodward, Littlejohn, or Marles Medals must be current University of Melbourne staff at the time of application.
- Ensure you understand the application requirements, including:
- the specific eligibility requirements for honorary staff, and
- any additional conditions outlined in the relevant scheme guidelines.
RESEARCH IMPACT STREAMS: (Marles Medals)
The nominated research and evidence of its impact must have occurred within the preceding ten years: 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2025.
Applications must:

Describe the impact and its significance: Provide a clear explanation of the research impact and why it is significant. Include all necessary details and evidence within this application. External links or references to information outside the application will not be considered.

Provide up to three related research outputs: For example, publications, peer‑reviewed scholarly works, or research‑focused creative works that directly relate to, support, or demonstrate the research impact described.

Explain the linkage between impact, outputs, and your contribution (Including co-author contributions as relevant): Describe how the research impact—across any relevant aspects—connects to the research outputs you have listed. Clearly outline your specific role and contributions (Including co-author & co-applicant's contributions as relevant) to both the research outputs and the resulting impact.

RESEARCH EXCELLENCE STREAMS: (Woodward and Littlejohn Medals)
The Woodward and Littlejohn Medals recognise research excellence based on research published within the preceding five years: 1 January 2021 – 31 December 2025.
Applicant Checklist
- Complete the application form and upload all required supporting documents, including:
- fully signed internal supporting statements
- fully signed external supporting statements
- Ensure all fields in the form are either completed or marked ‘not applicable’.
- Cayuse Proposals are not required for this scheme.
