Administrative Summary

ARC DECRA Fellowship (DE27) applicants are eligible to apply for an Establishment Grant of up to $50,000. All DECRA applicants should apply for the Establishment Grant.

Chancellery provides up to $25,000 per project with the Faculty/School/Department matching 1:1. The minimum contribution from Chancellery is $12,500 and this would need to be matched $12,500 by the Faculty/School/Department. MBS will cover half the cost for MBS researchers as there will be no Faculty contribution for applicants from MBS. 

The amount requested from Chancellery needs to be matched by the Faculty. At FBE the Faculty amount is again matched 1:1. For example: if you applied for the maximum total of $50,000 this would be $25,000 from Chancellery, $12,500 from the Faculty and $12,500 from the Department. MBS will cover half the cost for MBS researchers as there will be no Faculty contribution for applicants from MBS. 

The award of the Establishment Grant is conditional upon the successful award of the DECRA Fellowship. Establishment Grant funds are provided in a once-off payment that can be used across the life of the Fellowship. There are no specific funding rules attached to the Establishment Grant beyond that it is used toward project costs of the Fellowship.

Establishment Grant expenditure must be itemized in the ARC application in the following sections:

  • Statement by the Administering Organisation (Email the final draft to fbe-research@unimelb.edu.au) – include details of the total financial support being provided by the Administering Organisation and how this will support the candidate and project.
  • Project costs - Part E1 budget table and Part E3 justification of non-ARC funds
  • Research Load table - Part F6 (example here) (Source of Support: The University of Melbourne; Scheme: Establishment Grant 2025).

The FBE Research PSU will seek Head of Department and Associate Dean Research approval on your behalf, once your application is submitted through Smartygrants.
