Administrative Summary

ARC Future Fellowship (FT26) applicants are eligible to apply for an Establishment Grant of up to $150,000. All Future Fellowship applicants should apply for the Establishment Grant.

FT26 round Establishment Grants will be awarded on a 1:1 basis. Chancellery will provide up to $75K per project with Faculty/School/Department matching 1:1. There is no minimum contribution; however, the standard establishment grant will be $100k, split 1:1 between Chancellery/DVCR and the Faculty. Establishment grants of up to $150k (split 1:1) will be considered if supported by the relevant Faculty.

The amount requested from Chancellery needs to be matched by the Faculty. At FBE the Faculty amount is again matched 1:1. For example: if you applied for the maximum total of $150,000 this would be $75,000 from Chancellery, $37,500 from the Faculty and $37,500 from the Department.

The award of the Establishment Grant is conditional upon the successful award of the Future Fellowship. Establishment Grant funds are provided in a one-off payment that can be used across the life of the Fellowship. There are no specific funding rules attached to the Establishment Grant beyond that it is used toward project costs of the Fellowship.

Establishment Grant expenditure must be itemized in the ARC application in the following sections:

  • C2: Statement by the Administering Organisation (draft due by 5.00pm Monday 6 October 2025 to fbe-research@unimelb.edu.au) – include details of the total financial support being provided by the Administering Organisation and how this will support the candidate and project

  • D1: What is the proposed budget for the project? – in the Administering Organisation column, list the specific items which will be funded by the Establishment Grant OR include a single line for 'Establishment Grant support' under the 'Other' subheading.

  • D2 & D3: Details of non-ARC contributions – describe how the UoM Establishment Grant support will contribute to achieving the aims of the project.

  • B4: Research Load (non-ARC Grants and Research, example here) – list the Establishment Grant as a requested application. (Source of Support: The University of Melbourne; Scheme: Establishment Grant 2025).

The FBE Research PSU will seek Head of Department and Associate Dean Research approval on your behalf before submitting the request for funding to Chancellery/DVCR.
