Information before completing the application

The BUA - Melbourne Joint Research Workshop Call supports joint research workshops aimed at developing and submitting external research funding proposals. Applications must be jointly led by one eligible Principal Investigator (PI) from the University of Melbourne and one eligible PI from a Berlin University Alliance member institution (Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, or Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin). The call is open to all research areas and disciplines and supports new or emerging collaborations, or a substantive step change in an existing collaboration. Workshops may be held in Melbourne or Berlin and must take place before November 2026.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

  • Please ensure you have read and understood the BUA - Melbourne Joint Research Workshop Guidelines and Instructions to Applicants. 
  • All applications must be endorsed by the PI’s Head of Department/School by completing and signing the relevant section of the Authority to Submit Form (formerly Faculty Certification Form).
  • University of Melbourne PIs must attach the PDF of the Authority to Submit Form to this application.
  • To meet the objectives of the project, funding received through the scheme may be used to support mobility costs for collaborating academic staff, and graduate researchers enrolled at Melbourne. Academic staff must meet the same eligibility requirements as the PIs.
  • Proposals should support new or emerging collaborations, or enable a substantive step change in an existing collaboration, in line with the scheme guidelines. 
  • Incomplete applications or declined eligibility exemptions will not be progressed for further assessment.
