  • Please ensure you have read and understood the Scheme Guidelines, which outline the aims and conditions of this grant scheme including eligibility criteria.
  • To be eligible, you must meet the minimum appointment requirements as outlined in the University of Melbourne's (UoM) JSPS Guidelines. Please review the requirements carefully and check with your Head of Department to ensure your eligibility.

Letter of Support: University of Melbourne PIs are required to provide their Japanese collaborator with a Letter of Support, which outlines UoM’s commitment to the project. This Letter must be signed by both your Faculty/School and Chancellery. The purpose of submitting this SmartyGrants form is to generate the co-signed Letter of Support.

  • Please use the template available on the RDS scheme webpage to prepare the Letter of Support.
  • Ensure your Faculty/School/Department has signed the Letter of Support.
  • Upload the signed Letter to this SmartyGrants form. The RDS team will arrange for the Letter to be co-signed by Chancellery when they receive your submission.
  • A copy of the co-signed Letter will be returned to you via the email address you provide below.
  • Forward the fully-signed Letter to your Japanese collaborator.

SmartyGrant 'Letter of Support' submissions must be received by 3:00pm, 1 September 2025. Completed applications to the JSPS scheme are due on 3 September 2025. Please be aware that your collaborating Japanese institution may have different internal deadlines for processing and approvals.
