Instructions to Applicants

Applicants for the Littlejohn Medal must be members of staff of the University of Melbourne at the time of their application.

For 2025 applications, the relevant research must have been published between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2024.

Please closely review the scheme guidelines for application requirements, including if you are applying with co- or jointly authored publications or honorary staff.

Please Note: A person may not apply for a Littlejohn Medal, and a Marles or Woodward Medal, in the same year.

Checklist:

  • On the scheme webpage, read the guidelines and check eligibility criteria. Address any queries to res-devschemes@unimelb.edu.au.
  • The applicant(s) must complete the application form and provide all supporting documentation, including fully signed internal and external supporting statements..
  • All fields must be completed or marked ‘not applicable’ to be eligible for review.
  • Themis Submissions are not required for this scheme.

Internal Support Statement

Applicants must be supported in writing by a colleague in the applicant's faculty, who has knowledge in the applicant's field (internal support statement) and this statement must be signed by the Dean of the Faculty, Associated Dean (Research) or relevant Head of Department/School.

The internal support statement must address the nature of the publication or work and its significant contribution to knowledge/research excellence.
